Worship

Worship services incorporating the Eucharist are held at 5:00 p.m. on Saturdays and at 8:00, 9:30, and 11:00 a.m. on Sundays, September thru May.   During June, July and August, worship services are held at 5:00 pm on Saturdays and at 9:00 am and 10:30 am on Sundays. There is no Sunday School during the summer months.

Additional communion services are offered during Holy Week and Christmas. Wednesday evening devotional services are held during Lent and Advent. Adult Sunday School and Sunday School for youth and children are held at 9:30 am Sundays.

In addition to our staff, members of all ages are involved in our worship ministries. To facilitate worship, we print the entire service in our weekly worship folder. We also provide enlarged copies for the visually impaired and audio assistance devices for those who need them.

Weekend worship at Prince of Peace embraces a diverse selection of music and service elements, and always follows the four-fold ancient pattern for worship: Gathering, Word, Meal and Sending.

We take the word “liturgy” (work of the people) seriously at Prince of Peace with a multitude of opportunities for members and friends of the congregation to join in planning and leading worship.

Music Programs

MAKING USE OF A GIFTED PEOPLE

All musical activities at the church are the product of its gifted people, especially in terms of congregational song. Many contribute regularly as choir members, cantors and instrumentalists. Worship planning by the music department and the pastors is grounded in the ideal of full participation of the whole assembly. Accordingly, we use hymns from all different cultures and styles, and use many different instruments to communicate those diverse songs.

Instrumental Opportunities

Anyone with instrumental skills, regardless of instrument, is invited to join in our music ministry. If you enjoy playing, and are willing to contribute your gifts to the ministry of liturgical leadership, contact Toby Lyke for more information.

Adult Choir

The Adult Choir is open to both adults and teens. They regularly sing at the 9:30 am service each week and on occasion they will sing at the Saturday 5:00 pm or Sunday 11:00 am services. The choir leads hymns and psalms, and presents an anthem and/or other choral music appropriate to the day's liturgy. Membership is open to all who enjoy singing and wish to share in the choir's ministry. Rehearsals are on Thursday evenings from 7:15-9:00 pm, September through May.

Bells of Peace (Adults)

This group of handbell ringers meets Monday nights 6:45-8:00 pm to prepare music for worship and other special events in the church. Musical rhythm reading is the only prerequisite for this group. If you've rung bells in the past, if you've sung before in a choir, if you used to play in the band, you will be able to successfully ring with Bells of Peace. The Directors are Janet Scott and Robin Stevenson. For more information, call Robin at 561-3115 or e-mail her at robin6557@aol.com.

Cheerful Chimes (4th - 6th Graders)

Cheerful Chimes is a group for boys and girls interested in ringing choir chimes (resonating aluminum tubes that sound like bells). A knowledge of basic musical rhythms is helpful, though not mandatory. The group rehearses at 10:30-11:00 am on the 1st, 2nd, and 4th Sundays of the month, beginning in September. (On the 3rd Sunday Joyful Noise, our 2nd-6th grade choir, meets in the morning, so chimes members may also participate in Joyful Noise.) The group performs when pieces are worship ready. The Director is Robin Stevenson. For more information, call Robin at 561-3115 or e-mail her at robin6557@aol.com

Cherub Choir

Our youngest choir includes children from ages 3 through 1st grade. They rehearse Sunday mornings 10:30 am - 11:00 am and sing in worship typically on the first Sunday of the month, October - May. The Director is Karen Skarda. She may be reached at the church office (513-683-4244).

Youthfest Singers

This group provides singing opportunities for youth grades 7-12, in various formats. The rehearsal schedule is tailored to the event in question, sometimes a Youthfest concert or invitational sing. The Director is Robin Stevenson. Please contact her at 513-561-3115 or robin6557@aol.com.

Joyful Noise

Singers are in grades 2 through 6; rehearsals are Sunday evenings at the church from 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm. This group sings in worship on the third Sunday of the month, September - May. Emphasis is on the fundamentals of singing and blending, and on development of listening skills. The Director is Robin Stevenson. You can contact her at 513-561-3115 or robin6557@aol.com.
