Membership

Membership in any church is a personal decision which only you can make. The staff and members of Prince of Peace are always open to hearing from you and willing to help answer any questions that you may have regarding our church, our beliefs or any other details that may help with your decision.

Becoming a member of Prince of Peace is an indication of your commitment to Jesus Christ through the mission and ministry of this family of faith. We know you have choices as to which church body you want to belong and we encourage people to visit Prince of Peace as well as other places – it's important to have a comparison.

Membership at Prince of Peace is very simple. Let us know you are interested, attend the next series of Discovering Membership Classes and let us know how to spell your name for your name tag!  It’s that simple. Providing you have been baptized, you will be introduced at the next service where we receive new members. For those that are not yet baptized, there is an additional step.

Affirmation of Faith
If you have been baptized, but are not currently on the rolls of a Lutheran congregation, you are invited to consider membership through affirmation of faith. Candidates attend the Discovering Membership Class, after which they are invited to consider membership by affirming their faith according to the beliefs and practices of the Lutheran Church.

Transfer of Membership
If you are moving from another Lutheran congregation where you are currently an active member, you may seek membership at Prince of Peace through transfer of membership. You may have your previous congregation send a letter of transfer to the church office so that your church records stay current and historical dates are not lost. Upon receipt, you will be advised of the next Discovering Membership Class. Upon completion, you become a member of Prince of Peace. Attending the class you will become acquainted with other members, both old and new, of Prince of Peace and to the myriad of opportunities and services available to you as a member. Attendance does not obligate you to join but rather ‘opens the door’ for you to do so.

Discovering Membership Class
Discover other Christians who are on the Christian journey.  There are 5 sessions which meet on Sunday mornings from 9:30 – 10:30 (during the Sunday School hour). There is a nursery available for children 3 and under and Sunday School for older children.

You will meet members of the staff, of church council, and other Christians who are traveling on the same journey. You will be given information on the ELCA, a church directory, information on all the various ministries and how to get involved at Prince of Peace. Find out what Lutherans believe. You will meet another family at Prince of Peace who will be your shepherd and guide you along the path of membership. Get answers to your questions!  Make new friends.  We hope you will consider joining us.

Contact one of the Pastors or the church office for the dates of the next class.
